We have worked on identifying persuasive techniques in a variety of ways and have even incorporated the use of them in projects of our own.
- Click on the link below to open the powerpoint.
- Get an Exit Ticket from my desk.
- Write the technique/ techniques used in each ad on the line provided next to the Ad’s number.
Finally, which Ad made the most impact on you and why? Would another technique have worked, as well. Explain.
Persuasive Techniques Magazine Ads
One of the best parts of watching the Super Bowl is seeing what advertisers come up with to sell their products. These commercials are often more discussed than the game itself.
What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial from this year and why? What persuasive technique or techniques were used to try to convince you to buy the product?
Here is your opportunity to share some of the struggles that you have with technology in your classroom. What worries you about setting up a blogging system for your classroom? What do you think might possibly be obstacles? How could you overcome these?
Read the comments from the other participants. Respond to at least two with suggestions, solutions, alternatives, etc.

To make it easier on us all, we have uploaded the powerpoint with the given links directly to this site. That way you don’t have to keep up with your papers if you want to use one of the sites that we have suggested.
Fellow educators:
This is a site that my partner and I use in our reading classes from time to time. We hope to incorporate it even more since the children really enjoy the freedom that the site offers them to voice opinions that they may not feel comfortable doing in front of the whole class. It, also, helps us to gain insight into the thought processes of some of our more reserved students. As you can see, with a bit of exploration, every strand of Reading has been addressed at one point except for Fluency. You can note, as well, that this is a forum that the students relate to and allows them the opportunity to work at their own pace much like an online class.
Each of you have selected your own book to read from the library or from home. We each have different interests and styles and like different things.
Give the title and author of your book. Explain how and why this book fits your personality/interests/style/etc.
Would you suggest that a friend read this book? Why or why not?
On page 128 of “The Outsiders” Dally starts raving wildly…”you get tough like me and you don’t get hurt. You look out for yourself and nothing can touch you…”
Do you agree with him that this is the right way to be? Why or why not? Explain yourself and give examples to support your answer.
On page 102 of “The Outsiders” is the following quote…”Greaser didn’t have anything to do with it…It’s the Individual.”
Based on that statement and what you have read, what has Pony learned about stereotypes? Is this a good thing, why or why not? Explain.
There are many kinds of heroes. It is difficult to predict how an individual might react in an situation where risking one’s life may save another’s.
Would you have saved the children in the burning church like Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dallas? Discuss the reasons why you think you might have saved the kids and the reasons you think you might not have saved them.
Remember: We are all human and none of us know how we really would respond if faced with the situation. Just be as honest as possible.
Nothing Gold Can Stay
by Robert Frost
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay. What do you think that Robert Frost is trying to say? How does this poem apply to the events and characters in “The Outsiders” so far? (What “gold” did Pony have that didn’t last? Is this supposed to be a sad poem? Why do you think so or not?
Read and respond to to the comments of at least two classmates, as well. |
